The Congress-led UPA Government plans to add 13,000 megawatts (MW) of electricity generation capacity each year, President Pratibha Patil told members of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha in a traditional joint address of the parliament. The new capacity will be built through a mix of coal-fired, hydroelectric, nuclear and renewable energy sources, Patil said.
“Coordinated action for energy would be guided by the integrated energy policy,” Patil said. “Village and rural household electrification and reduction in aggregate technical and commercial losses will continue to be given highest priority.” The Government will operationalize civilian nuclear energy agreements with various countries, Patil said. |
