BHEL wins order worth Rs. 40.15bn from Hindalco

June 15, 2009

Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited (BHEL) has bagged Rs. 40.15bn order from Hindalco Industries Limited for the supply and erection of the main plant package for its upcoming captive power plant (6x150MW) at Aditya Aluminium in Sambalpur district of Orissa.

The order comes close on the heels of an order placed on BHEL by Hindalco for a similar Boiler and Turbine Generator package for its captive power plant (6x150 MW) at Mahan Aluminium in Singrauli district of Madhya Pradesh.

This order was also won against intense competition from domestic and international companies including Chinese majors. With this, company has secured orders for all the 12 units of 150 MW Boilers and TG sets for Mahan and Aditya Aluminium projects, tenders for which were floated by Hindalco in June 2008.

These captive power plants of 900 MW capacity each at Mahan and Aditya Aluminium are key to the expansion plans of HINDALCO, which is setting up aluminium smelters of 360,000 TPA each at both these locations.

The equipment for both the projects will be manufactured and supplied by BHEL's manufacturing units at Trichy, Hyderabad , Bhopal , Bangalore and Ranipet. The erection of the Mahan project will be undertaken by BHEL's Power Sector Western Region, Nagpur and that of the Aditya project will be undertaken by the company's Power Sector Southern Region, Chennai.

As a result of increased customer focus and renewed efforts for sustained presence in varied industrial segments, BHEL's Industry Sector business segment recorded an all time high order inflow of Rs.102,540 Million in fiscal 2008-09 - a growth of 30%, in Captive Power, Transportation, Power Transmission, Oil & Gas and other industrial segments.
