Toshiba, Japan’s largest supplier of nuclear reactors, is planning to invest US$160mn with India’s JSW Group in a proposed joint venture to make steam turbines and generators.
The JV, which was first announced in 2008, is expected to start operations by January 2011.
The JV sees sales of US$400mn in India by end of fiscal year 2014-15 and will work towards establishing an independent production scale of 3,000 megawatt (MW) a year by 2014.
"Over the five years from fiscal year 2009, Toshiba-JSW expects to invest approximately US$160mn in the plant and its manufacturing equipment and essential facilities, including waste-treatment facilities," the joint statement said.
